Freestyle

At Bassingbourn Snowsports Centre, private lessons can be booked to introduce skiers to freestyle skiing.  Freestyle skiing attempts to break away from just turning left and right and introduces further elements such as tricks and jumps into the skiing

There are essentially six freestyle disciplines which form the basis of competition skiing, which are:-

Acro
Tricks, skiing to music
Moguls
Going fast down a mogul field and carrying out two different jumps
Aerials
Going nearly vertically upwards and carrying out one or more somersaults
SkierX
Racing down a SkierX course with terrain features such as jumps etc.  Fastest have a knock-out race 4 at a time (turning poles are consequently short)
Big Air
Like snowboarding, getting lots of height with rotations and grabs
Half Pipe
Like snowboarding, getting lots of height with rotations and grabs

Our slope is principally suited to Acro, but it is possible to learn the turning techniques which would be required in mogul competitions - and the small jumps enable skiers to learn the basis of jumping for mogul competitions

The other disciplines are for the serious athlete requiring very specialist facilities - which are not currently available at Bassingbourn

So what do I do?

Well! just decide if you want to try something different to the normal type of lesson and whether you want to learn the basics of jumping or trick skiing

Maybe you just want to look cool on your next holiday on the snow. You could just read up about it and try it out when you arrive at your resort - but.....

The quickest and safest way of course, is to have a lesson.  It could be a taster just to try it out - or you may have specific requests

In any event, contact the Booking Secretary and tell her that you would like to book a Private Lesson to do Freestyle as a taster, or a full lesson with a particular Freestyling request.  She will then arrange a mutually convenient time for you and the specialist Freestyle Instructor.

Fee is the same as for a normal Private Lesson.  All necessary skiing equipment is provided for the lesson
